Official Site® | Ledger.com/Start® | Getting Started — Ledger
Welcome to the Official Ledger® Getting Started Portal — your trusted first step toward securing and managing your digital assets. At Ledger.com/Start, we provide everything you need to set up your Ledger hardware wallet, understand how it works, and begin your crypto journey with confidence.
Ledger is a global leader in digital asset security, offering secure and user-friendly hardware wallets backed by industry-leading technology. Whether you're new to crypto or upgrading your wallet, this guide will walk you through every essential step.
Why Ledger?
In the world of digital assets, security starts with ownership. Exchanges and software wallets can be convenient, but they expose your private keys to potential online threats. Ledger devices offer a simple yet powerful solution: a hardware wallet that stores your private keys offline, out of reach from hackers and malware.
With Ledger, your keys never leave your device. Only you have access. Only you control your crypto.
What Is Ledger.com/Start®?
Ledger.com/Start® is the official onboarding page for setting up your Ledger Nano S Plus, Ledger Nano X, or any supported Ledger device. This is the only legitimate source for downloading Ledger Live, the companion app that allows you to manage your digital assets securely.
Here’s what you’ll find on the page:
- Official download link for Ledger Live (desktop & mobile)
- Device setup instructions
- Video tutorials
- Important security warnings
- Help center and support links
Bookmark Ledger.com/Start® to ensure you always use the correct and secure setup path.
What You’ll Need
Before you begin, make sure you have the following:
- A Ledger hardware wallet (Ledger Nano S Plus, Nano X, or Stax)
- A computer or smartphone with internet access
- A pen and the recovery sheet provided in the box
- A calm environment where you can carefully follow security steps
Never use a pre-owned or pre-configured device. If you suspect tampering, stop and contact Ledger Support immediately.
Step-by-Step: Setting Up Your Ledger Device
1. Unbox and Verify
Open your Ledger device box and ensure the contents are intact and untampered. Ledger devices are never pre-set with a PIN or recovery phrase. If your device appears pre-configured, do not use it.
2. Visit Ledger.com/Start®
Navigate to https://www.ledger.com/start to begin the official setup process. This page links to the official Ledger Live app — the only app you should use to interact with your Ledger device.
3. Download and Install Ledger Live
Choose your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android) and download Ledger Live. Always download directly from Ledger.com to avoid counterfeit or malicious versions.
4. Initialize Your Device
Connect your Ledger wallet to your device and launch Ledger Live. Select "Set up as new device." Then:
- Create a secure 4–8 digit PIN code.
- Write down your 24-word recovery phrase on the provided sheet.
- Confirm your recovery phrase on the device screen.
This phrase is your only backup. Ledger cannot help you recover it. Keep it offline and never share it.
5. Add Crypto Accounts
Once setup is complete, you can install apps for specific cryptocurrencies (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum) directly through Ledger Live. Create individual accounts for each asset, and start sending, receiving, or storing crypto securely.
Go Further With Ledger Live
Ledger Live is more than just a setup tool — it’s a complete platform for managing your crypto. With Ledger Live, you can:
- Buy, sell, and swap crypto through trusted third-party providers
- Stake assets like Ethereum, Polkadot, and Tezos
- Track your portfolio across multiple assets in real time
- Access NFTs and Web3 apps securely through integrations
All transactions are authorized via your Ledger device, adding an extra layer of protection every step of the way.
Stay Safe: Security Best Practices
- Never share your recovery phrase — not with anyone, not online, not even with Ledger support.
- Only use Ledger.com and Ledger Live to manage your wallet.
- Beware of phishing scams and unofficial websites pretending to be Ledger.
- Keep your device firmware updated via Ledger Live.
Remember, if someone has your 24-word phrase, they have full control over your crypto. Ledger will never ask for it.
